In the heart of ancient history The legend has it that the Hesperidia gardens,
paradise on earth, were located somewhere near
Larache. It was there that the fantastic tree bearing
golden apples taken by Hercules. He history of the
Larache region makes this part of Morocco highly
interesting for archeology. The ruins of the old Roman
city Lixus, are the delight of amateur archeologists, with
the theater, an acropolis, temples, amphitheater, baths
with a mosaic at the foot of a hill, some one hundred
basins used as drysaltry factories bearing witness to
the importance of this site.
Development of Ecotourism A port city on the Atlantic Ocean, Larache is located at
the mouth of the Loukos, a river forming marshes and
arms of the sea. Moving up the river at 4 kms, marshes
are the home of many wader birds (pink flamingoes,
herons, swallows, etc.). As in other ornithology
reserves on the coast, quality ecotourism is practiced.
Water sports Larache is also a seaside resort. Two beaches
delimited by a jetty offer bathing and water sports. One
is ideal for surfers, the other, closer to the arms of the
sea and calmer, perfect for bathing.
